Welcome to The City of Plymouth Children Fund website
The City of Plymouth Children Fund is an independent, registered children’s charity founded in 1961, which offers free 7-day residential respite breaks for less-advantaged children from Plymouth and surrounding areas, who for a variety of reasons really need some time away. For many it is their only chance of a holiday in many years - if ever, for others it can be respite from being a child carer or problems they associate with home.
It is run by a small committee of volunteers who oversee all the fund-raising activities and events organised by the charity.
The charity was set up to help local less advantaged children, particularly those who have suffered specific hardship or difficulties, to have the opportunity of a holiday in a supportive family atmosphere. Each year we organise an annual holiday for children that is funded entirely from the monies raised. In addition, to provide ongoing support, we organise a couple of trips (e.g. Pantomime, Woodlands etc.) and a Christmas party.
Camp 2008 was held at a holiday park in Dawlish Warren from the 12th to 19th August and we were able to offer places to 24 children (aged 8 - 11), supported by 10 full time and several part time volunteer staff. Although we manage our funds carefully, this year’s holiday cost £3600, with most of that cost being accommodation and transport.
.
Our holidays are always fun, friendly, challenging, caring and make a difference, whereby children can be children.
If you are able to help us in any way from volunteering on the camp or day trips to helping to do a fundraiser, then we need you!!
